Heart of the matter: A sustainable event for a global medical device company

Success story - snapshot

Industry: Life Sciences

Service: Sustainable event

Location: Verona, Italy

Brief

Corcym is a leading global medical device company, specializing in heart valves. They sought the expertise of CWT Meetings & Events, their trusted events partner for over two decades, to orchestrate a memorable and fully sustainable event. The event aimed to unite a diverse group of stakeholders, including internal staff, service providers, distributors, and guests, totaling 120 attendees.

Solution

We crafted a comprehensive strategy that aligned with the customers objectives. This included communicating sustainable goals to attendees, selecting specific suppliers and tracking event emissions. With Verona selected as the location, the environmental impact was considered for every aspect of the event, including:

  • Accommodation and activities: Two hotels were selected, both within walking distance from Verona train station and nearby leisure activities.
  • Transportation: Only suppliers with certifications in quality and sustainability were selected and 50% of vehicles used for transfers were electric.
  • Catering: Venues selected were committed to zero-kilometer menus, referring to food that is produced, sold, and eaten locally. Excess food was donated through a partnership with Veneto Food Bank and meeting spaces included recycling containers. Bottled water was also limited with any provided being in biodegradable and compostable glass.
  • Off-site activity: A presentation in Valpolicella featured locally produced wines, drawing a parallel between the durability of Corcym’s heart valves and wine aging. Committed to environmental stewardship, the winery exemplified this through their innovative packaging using lighter glass bottles and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified labels and corks.

Results

Our efforts resulted in a highly successful event:

  • Carbon emission results revealed a minimal footprint of just 1.144 kg of CO2, excluding CWT event organisers.
  • An on-site TUV Auditor confirmed the event’s sustainability components, leading to a 2023 ISO 20121 certification.
  • The event achieved a 93% overall attendee satisfaction score

Impressed with our sustainable event management, Corcym has requested two further events in Turin and Copenhagen.

Thank you for all the work you’ve done for this event, you made it unforgettable.
